Asbestos Management Survey

An Asbestos Management Survey is required to manage Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) during the normal occupation and use of premises. The duty-holder can make a Management Survey where the premises are simple and straightforward. Otherwise, a competent surveyor is needed.

A Management Survey aims to ensure that:

  • nobody is harmed by the continuing presence of ACM in the premises or equipment
  • the ACM remain in good condition
  • nobody disturbs it accidentally

The Survey must locate ACM that could be damaged or disturbed by normal activities, by foreseeable maintenance or by installing new equipment. It involves minor intrusion and minor asbestos disturbance to make a Materials Assessment. This shows the ability of ACM, if disturbed, to release fibres into the air. The survey guides the client e.g. in prioritising any remedial work.

RM Risk Management has an experienced team of Asbestos Survey professionals who are able to carry out comprehensive building surveys that will identify the presence of asbestos. Our surveyors are all holders of the BOHS (British Occupational Hygiene Society) P402 qualification – the statutory proficiency certificate in ‘Building Surveys and Bulk sampling for Asbestos’.

We provide Asbestos Management Surveys, UK wide, for Commercial Offices, Industrial Estates, Retail Parks, Shopping Centres, Schools, Residential Care Homes and HMOs.

Frequently Asked Questions

We've answered the common questions we get asked about this service

Do I need an Asbestos Survey?

If you own, manage or operate a building or business, you will need to comply with the relevant legislation. The main law is the Control of Asbestos regulations 2012, more commonly known as the CAR 2012.

CAR 2012 applies to virtually all non-domestic buildings and it is your responsibility to make sure the workplace meets the required standards. Suitable and sufficient assessments must be carried out by a competent person.

Can I carry our an Asbestos Survey myself?

Responsibility for the provision of a compliant assessment lies with the external consultancy who has fully qualified surveyors.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in the West Midlands, but our assessors work nationwide. The majority of our work is in London, Birmingham and Manchester, however we look after our clients’ properties all over the UK, including The Channel Islands and Northern Ireland.

How much does an Asbestos Management Survey cost?

Dependent on the size and location of the building, or type of survey, our Asbestos Surveys can start from just £300. There are no hidden costs and we provide an after-care service to all of our clients offering ongoing advice and meetings where necessary.

How often should I review my Asbestos Survey?

Once the survey is completed, you must either remove or manage asbestos. If you manage it then it must be inspected at least annually and any damaged asbestos repaired or removed.

The majority of our clients’ properties are assessed once a year.
